Unsure why this resort is rated at 5 stars on Expedia. Perhaps Expedia is just nostalgic- since the best days of this "grande dame" as they refer to themselves - have probably long passed. First, what's good: the architecture, the layout, the expansive rooms, all amazing. Really and truly amazing. Next.. what's not good: the property is run down. A Waldorf Astoria should be in excellent condition. The elevator was broken in our 4- story wing on Thursday when we checked in... still broken on Sunday when I checked out. Holes in the walls and ceilings in the main lobby area and public hallways. The carpet was stained and was in bad repair (see photos) and the wifi never worked even after several requests to have it checked. The icing on the cake was on the day I checked out. I had a brunch reservation and asked to check out at 2PM since I would be in THEIR restaurant and wanted a few minutes to collect everything and change clothes before traveling home. I was told no by the front desk, so I spoke to Jessica the manager and plead my case - explaining that I would be spending $300 or more on brunch so I hoped that she could accommodate this request. Again, no. But she offered to hold my bags for me... little did I know they would be stacked outside in the 110 degree summer. When I went to check out, I had been charged both self parking and valet parking for each night. Plus a mini bar charge for bottled water that I never used. As I paid the $360.00 for brunch all I could think of is what a shame. Skip this frumpy, mean old lady- a gracious grande dame she is not.
