I remember when the food at the Harris Grill was just meh and the interior hadn't been updated in God knows how long. Suddenly, they have a bacon night, the interior is hipster chic and the food has been significantly upgraded.
I just recently went there again this past Saturday with my daughter Muff and my sister Luch and we had a pig-out moment. There is no good reason why three people should order entrees and several appetizers for lunch, but we did that. My sister and I ordered the Salmon BLTs. (She tried to be healthy by ordering a side salad with her sandwich, but I went all the way in by ordering the fries to go with!) Muff ordered the "I Can Has Bacon Cheezburger?" and tatter tots. (Muff could only finish half of burger since we got the appetizers too.) We also ordered the Hush Piggies, which are home-made tatter tots with bacon and cheddar cheese (What's wrong with that?) and Chimichurri Flurry wings. (Those wings were delightful and delicious! I usually ask that my wings be fried on the hard side, but they instinctively knew that's the best way to serve them.)
We also ordered the Cookies-N-Cream dessert which is a hot chocolate cookie served in a small cast iron pan with a scoop of French vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce. I'm not really a dessert person, but I have to say that that warm chocolate chip cookie with the ice cream was tasty. Go on Harris Grill, you have stepped up your game!
It's nice when an older restaurant in a quote, unquote "chic" neighborhood decides to do a remix of their space and menu. That has been the death knell of many established restaurants. (I miss Eddie's Restaurant in the Hill District for a good old-fashioned soul food breakfast. However, I don't think that they renovated the place since Van Gogh had both ears.) Harris Grill did a nice update and should be rewarded by having more customers come through their doors.
