  • After visiting their sister store in Squirrel Hill yesterday I wanted to check out the new location. i got to speak to the manager in charge whose name is Mikayla. She told me that they are still in the process of getting things moved over from the Squirrel Hill store but all discounts such as the English teas are still 20% off. Since it was spread out more I was able to view the nice selection of cookies and biscuits from various parts of the globe. They also have the same merchandise for sale. The one thing they do offer is take out tea service. It costs $2.25 per cup and you can choose from whatever loose leaf tea you wish to try. She told me what I already knew was that the Squirrel Hill store doesn't have the capacity to sell tea to drink on the go. I had learned that they offer classes so I asked Mikayla about this. She affirmed that I was correct and that they are 2 hours in length. Discount purchases for these classes are available through Groupon. Since they are just getting started they have no classes yet but will in the future. She took time out with me to explain the fundamentals and how some of the teas can be made for iced tea. She also explained proper storage and shelf life of their teas. The prices are the same as the Squirrel Hill store. Having bought tea yesterday I decided to order a fresh made cup. I like fruity blends so I ended up with Sencha Kyoto cherry rose. After preparing it she advised that I let it steep for 2 but no longer than 3 minutes. It also gave me an opportunity not to burn my tongue on the hot water they use. Needless to say it was very good. Among other things they sell are coffee which I learned is also in their sister store. They sell all types of small appliances and the most beautiful set of tea pots and cups along with the accessories. Feeling British? They sell fascinators if you are so inclined. The only drawback is the parking. It sits in a very tiny lot near the shopping center and there are only two spaces there. When you park you actually have to turn around to get out because there is a sign advising you of a deadend so you cannot drive into the next door Walgreens to get out. Once you are able to turn around you can go back onto Collier Ave and turn at the light which will put you back onto Rt 50. As I was leaving I tripped off the stair and fortunately their fence broke my fall. Mikayla asked if I was alright and I replied yes but advised her to put a "watch your step" sign both sides of the door to avoid accidents. Will most definitely return once I finish my other tea and try some of their other offerings.
