| - I went to the farmers' market really wanting Tourtiere, only to find that the place that has it only sells whole frozen ones, not lunch portions. Upon exploring a bit more, I discovered that Simple Simon Pies has it! After a quick taste test, I determined that I needed this. The pie is a tiny personal size, and actually the perfect size. Tourtiere is basically just a ground meat pie (very much like the meat pies that are popular in Australia, actually). These have a simple pie crust rather than the puff pastry I am used to with hand pies. This one needed a fork...and ketchup! If you can't put maple syrup on something, you can probably put ketchup on it!
I have never had tourtiere before so I cannot judge whether this is true to its traditional preparation or not, but it was tasty and that is good enough for me!
About $5 for a little pie. I'll add that Simple Simon has lots of different savory AND sweet pies available, savory flavors including Sheperd's Pie, butter chicken, a spinach and cheese thing, and even a donair pie complete with that sweet and craveable donair sauce!
I wish I lived closer so I can try more of their pies. Maybe someday!
