As the first restaurant I've ever visited in AZ, Hiro Sushi knocked it out of the park on the first swing. After a long, exhausting, and morally defeating week of 120-degree weather, I was in need for a real "treat yo self" evening. I strolled into Hiro elated to find an air-conditioned oasis with a lively sushi bar and (most important) cold sake.
I've dined solo at several points in my life; sometimes it's awkward, especially if you're given a table for two with a romantic view. Bellying up to the sushi bar took all of the awkwardness out of eating alone. With the friendly sushi chefs taking orders and providing a little bit of entertainment, I had a great time with my roll ($6), my udon ($13), and my unexpectedly huge bottle of Nigiri sake ($11).
Really friendly service and a full house of patrons (on a Thursday night in my case) made for fun, family-friendly vibes with great food. If I'm staying in the area again, I'll be sure to return!
