  • I keep revisiting Destihl because it's easily agreed upon among friends. The food is generally good. The beer can be hit (they once had an incredible Mango IPA) or miss (see below). Ambiance is dim but beautiful - nice for a date, bad lighting for photography. (Why are you taking selfies on a date anyway?) For this occasion, the Bacon & Cheddar Burger ($11.25) was a yes. A hefty hunk of meat nestled in a brioche bun with melted cheddar and a cross-hatch of semi-crisp bacon. Accouterments included the requisite lettuce, tomato, and thin-sliced pickles (which I think really give burgers that extra layer of flavour). I asked for medium-rare and got just that. The side of fries were fab: hand-cut and lightly seasoned. The Oengus Irish Stout (Nitro, starts at $1.40 for 4 ounces) was a no. It tasted like dirty water with a hint of coffee in the postlude. The brown ale might have been better if you enjoy dark & bitter with a bit more complexity. Our waiter was a maybe. He was courteous and lovely and kept our water glasses filled. He claimed he has a good memory but forgot my beer along with that of my companion's. And his rave recommendation of the Oengus Irish Stout seemed like false advertising. Though it doesn't have much to do with the food, he also had great hair imo. Maybe that bolstered our dining experience.
