  • A significant change from my previous 5 star review, and that is about the chips and salsa that I like so much. Used to be served with 4 different kinds of dips 1. red salsa 2. green chilli salsa 3. sour cream, milk and jalapenos concoction 4. warm refried beans in a scalloped clear plastic ice cream cup. Well today April 23, 2018, I went, and the restaurant changed the more generous and deeper plastic ice cream cup to put the chip dips in, to something like a shallow round ash tray, with only 2 tablespoons of salsa, and two tablespoons of the rest of the listed items. The "ashtray" is filled only half full, which is two tablespoons. Barely enough to cover the bottom, which means it isn't deep enough for dipping, except the mere corners and edges of your chip. The chip is bigger than the little "ash tray". Your two tablespoons of salsa in the crock are gone with 2 chips, if you ask for a spoon to help spoon the salsa onto your chip, like I did. So your dips get eaten real fast. I asked for more, but after asking several times for more, cos remember I said each crock only takes care of two chips. Annoying to have to look for our server again and again to bring us more salsa, after eating only two chips. My friend said to me, "They are so stingy with the salsa". I wanted to put more salsa on my chili relleno and asked for more, but then my friend ate what server brought for my chili relleno, so when I asked for another one, my server said she was gonna have to charge me. She said many people don't even eat the salsa, so it all goes to waste. That is why they went to serving so little, now, and we could always ask for more. I said "Well I'm Not PAYING EXTRA, you only give 2 tablespoons". I agree with the waste, but two tablespoons so shallow you cannot even "dip", is on the other extreme. My eating buddy was already writing her Google review while we were eating, and mentioning in her review that she was eating with a Yelp Eliter. When she told the server that we were writing reviews, the server was really much nicer, and brought me another crock of salsa that she filled to the brim, instead of another 2 tablespoons. When I saw the difference in the amount in the crock this time (to the brim), she remarked acknowledgement that she hand ladled the salsa and deliberately filled it to the brim (meaning 4 tablespoons instead of 2). I did not waste anything short of licking the little "ashtrays" before I left. I even asked to take home the two tablespoons of salsa that was left in that ashtray , cos I had to hurry off to my dental appt. Valerie our server looked at me with dismay and almost shock, when I said I wanted to take home the little bit of salsa and leftover chips, but said she nothing, and got me the container and takeout paper bag for the chips. I guess most people who leave it there to be thrown away, but hey, I just really enjoyed it at 8 pm tonight, at home. I think the lunch special for $7.95 is good value, includes drink, entree, the chips and dips, and sopapilla. When I paid at the cash register, I mentioned to the cash register lady, that there is only 2 tablespoons of salsa in that ashtray, can't even dip but little edge or corner of your chip. She said, "I told her not to charge you for the salsa." Yes, well, thank you. See you again when I have another dental appt (dental office is at Country Club N. of Elliot).
