My wife and I have stayed at the Dunhill multiple times in the past, in fact it's our "go-to" hotel anytime we're in Charlotte. The staff has always been extremely friendly and the rooms have always been great. There's a great restaurant and bar attached to the hotel which I highly recommend (Definitely do brunch, the food is great. My wife says the Spicy Bloody Mary's are amazing). To touch on a few things I saw in other comments...
1) "The rooms are small" - Some of them are. We've stayed in large ones and small ones, and they've all bee nice. The larger ones do have much nicer bathrooms (walk in marble showers and very spacious sink areas. The large ones tend to be at the end of the hallways.
2) "The decorations are outdated" - I laughed at this one. It's a historic hotel...it's "outdated" on purpose. The decorations are American / British themed.
3)"The hotel staff isn't nice" - I'm sure this can vary by situation, but we've never had a negative experience with the staff.
4) "You have to pay for parking" - This is true, and it's not exactly cheap. It's between 20-30 dollars to park in the parking garage (shared public garage). This is NOT a valet charge, we always park our car ourselves.
5) "Rooms can be noisy" - This can be true. I've noticed that it's the bathrooms that can be noisy, meaning that I hear other people showering / talking / etc while i'm in the bathroom. I've never noticed it outside of the bathroom.
6) "The Location is great" - It's uptown, so that's true. It's only a short walk from the epicenter.
