| - I finally got to ride the High Roller without being sore the next morning! =P The Linq is now open and it's a neat little alley that connects the strip to the High Roller. My friends and I bought our tickets from two employees of the High Roller next to a kiosk machine near the entrance to the Linq. One of our friends credit cards wasn't working so he couldn't buy a ticket at the Kiosk. The High Roller employees said we'd have to pay at the High Roller store (I'm not sure that's what you'd call it, but it's next to the Ferris wheel). We walked to the store to discover there's a $2.00 processing or handling fee. However, the ticket is cooler from the store. So, if you want a souvenir ticket, buy from the store right next to the High Roller. If you want to save a couple bucks, buy it from the kiosk near the strip. Also, it should be noted day rides are $10 cheaper than night rides.
Boarding the ride is pretty cool. You're ushered through a corridor of line mazes (there was no line when we went but I'm sure that's going to change). You CAN take drinks on it and make the ride more of a party. There's a bar when you're walking through the corridor so you can get your not-too-over-priced beverage before you board.
The ride itself isn't hard to board. It's always moving but very slowly. There's a safety net below, just in case one of your friends is too drunk and falls. The ride takes 30 minutes to complete. In 15 minutes you're at the top at 550 feet looking down on Vegas. It's a truly unique view of the strip. I think some of the casinos are going to have to vamp up their roofs! The Quad returns to Imperial Palace status from the top of The High Roller! I didn't have a problem taking dozens of pictures of Vegas from inside our pod. You have to get your camera close to the glass if you don't want any glare.
The ride sounds pretty safe from what one of the employees told me. In case of a power outage, the High Roller has 2 back-up generators. If the secondary fails, then there's a third. If someone were to have a heart attack or other issue, they can double the speed and reverse the ride, depending on where you are in the circular rotation. The employee said the fire department ran a few drills on the The High Roller a few days before they opened in case something happened and the Ferris wheel stopped by an unforeseeable event. They were able to get to each pod.
Stop reading my review and just ride it already ;)
