The words thirsty and miserable are the exact opposite of what I feel when I am here, in fact being in this dive bar I was quite happy and quenched.
I was here recently on a Sunday night for a CMYE. This is a little dive bar located in Kensington market where dive bars are abundant. Their beer list is quite impressive; they have a short list of draft beers all of which are craft beers from Ontario and Quebec. I opted for a pint of Beau's Doc's feet dubbel ($7) and it was quite nice. In addition to the impressive tap list they also have a bottle menu which is even more impressive. The bottle menu had beers from all over the world, including a Panil sour (Italian sour beer, which at $30 was the most expensive beer on the menu), I was fortunate enough to try a bit of the Panil, I am not a fan of sour beers and this was not my cup of tea. The bottle menu also included a few Belgian beers and even some American craft beers which is always a plus.
The bar itself is quite small with only a few tables. It definitely has that laid back, dive bar appeal. The one thing that really impressed me was that their washroom was pretty clean, which was a surprise considering most dive bars have a scary washroom.
While this place does not have the expansive beer menu of places like the Beerbistro or Volo, in many ways it is more laid back, their compact menu makes it a good place for those who love craft beer or those who are craft beer novices. I do not believe they serve food.
