Came here one night with some friends after we discovered Szechwan Palace was already closed for the night. Ninja was the only other place open within that same mall. No big deal - I wanted some Teppanyaki. When we walked in, they tried to seat us on the sushi side but since we wanted Teppanyaki, we were told to wait while they cleaned up one of the tables. Then the server led us to a Teppanyaki table and we sat down around it. I ordered a small Kirin. I also ordered the yakiniku as my main entree. There were four of us around the table in my group and the server brought in two more people (a couple) and asked if they could join our table. We were fine with it so he went on with the show. The server put on quite a show - spinning and twirling knives right in front of our faces. Wait - I don't remember signing a waiver! Hope he wasn't drinking earlier! So after that he chopped up the meats and did all sorts of hocus pocus and alchemy with sauces and lit flaming fires here and there. He did this one thing he called a "volcano" which was onions sliced up and arranged from large rings to small in the shape of a volcano. He lit that sucker up and it went whoosh - singed my nose hairs while I took pictures. He then neatly stacked up all the meats and vegetables and put it on our plates one by one. The show was over. We sat and ate for a bit - our rice actually came pretty late - timing was a little off. So while we gorged on meats and rice the table next to us started getting a little rowdy. Lots and I mean LOTS of alcohol was flowing and there were about 14 folks at the other table. It was somebody's 30-something birthday and somebody even came over with a gong and banged it loud and often enough for me to want to start throwing the teppanyaki items my dining companions couldn't finish at him. I thought their behavior was kinda obnoxious but it's a Saturday night and people party so what the hey? However, the couple that was sitting at our same table couldn't handle it and the man left to pay and leave. This was when the second "show" began. The woman stayed behind and started shouting back to all the yelling from the other table. I was half expecting a full-on bar fight with ZZ Top soundtrack and all but this was at a Teppanyaki place with mature adults that although inebriated seemed more or less cultured. About this point I realized that our tablemate was thoroughly and completely toasted. She continued to engage the other table with insults and mockery - this went on for a while. A while later her man came back and sat down frustrated that his drunken gal pal did not leave with him when he paid. Then the other party started to leave and as they did, each female member of the party stopped to face drunken woman and made some comment about kicking drunken woman's arse. One of them looked like she was ready to go right then and there. Drunken woman started raging about how she had 2 assault charges against her and how she wasn't afraid of going to jail again and how it was gonna be just her against 7 bitches and she would kick all their collective asses using some ancient art of bitch fu she learned in Apache Junction. LOL. I figured the women might wait for her outside the restaurant and settle it old school style. Or at least high school style. But there were no sirens going or cop cars waiting in the parking lot as we left the restaurant about ten minutes later. Just as well. That was way more entertainment than I expected. I shoulda known, though. After all, the place is called Ninja Restaurant! Coincidence? Methinks no. Service was more or less decent for how crowded it was. Clientele? A bit rowdy on the Teppanyaki side but a lot more mellow on the sushi side. Your mileage may vary of course. Place is in the same mall as Szechwan Garden and the new Ploy Thai Bistro which took over where T-Spot Ramen used to be. On Alma School halfway between Warner and Elliot on the west side. It's a mall. Lots of parking.
