  • tl; dr, Mike did a great job and is very, very experienced and skilled at what he does. He gets all my cars from now on. No fancy machines, done by hand and driving feel. Car feels as good as new. Better pricing than the dealer or big box repair shops as well. Win/Win. Let's see if this scenario sounds familiar: You take your car into a big, shiny shop. They tell you there's all kinds of things wrong with it, even things you may or may not be aware of. It's scary, it's expensive and it sure takes a hell of a long time. You have the work done, you wait all day, or a week, and it comes back either 1)- the same as before, or 2)- something else wrong. On top of that, when you go in, you have to fight with the Service Advisor about how the work was done wrong, sit and wait all day only to have the tech insist it's correct. BTW the tech looks and acts like a teenager. You're stuck and you lose a day every time they throw up a new excuse. If you have ever done biz at many dealers and big name shop I'm sure you're aware of this scenario. I had my car aligned at the local dealer the other day, under "Warranty"- so it was free to me- they told me it was off and it did feel a little twitchy, so I had it done. it's the dealer, right? They should know best! Car was driving OK, so I thought there might be room for improvement WRONG. Guess what- it came back pulling like a puppy on a leash. Let go of the steering wheel and you can drift into traffic. Annoying, and potentially fatal if you are inattentive for even a minute. I didn't want to go back, have them insist it's OK and it's a figment of my imagination, then wait ALL DAY for them to get it in to fix, again. So, I searched out a small old school shop with people who know how a car should drive, and what it does when certain parameters aren't correct. Many dealers don't have techs with enough experience understand WHY a car is acting a certain way, so they just throw solutions at it. This is an old school shop. Mike, has been obviously doing his trade for many years- no fancy alignment computer, he does his work with hand measuring tools and by feel. Turns out there was a driver's side camber setting that the dealer, with it's big fancy computerized machine got WRONG. Having a correctly set up alignment is a black art of sorts, there are so many factors involved to making the car drive nicely in that case, a good alignment guy is indispensable. They know what settings do,and can diagnose instead of just relying on what the computer tells them is "right". A good alignment guy is like a Chef at a Michelin rated restaurant, VS the McTech at a drive thru, or a custom Tailor VS buying off the rack suits. If you spend big money on a fancy car, you should have it set up to drive the best it can. Take it here. PS I'm not complaining about the dealer, they do work hard to make people happy, and the long waits and fights are nature of the beast. Just how it is. I wanted a pro's input custom adjustments- or if a way to optimize alignment, to find it. MIssion accomplished
