| - Ill start off positive by saying that this apartment is in a good location. Walking distance from most of downtown and Ohio city, theres a grocery store just a couple doors down, and if you are of age there are lots of bars and clubs a street over. Aside from all of that, the Bridgeview is a pretty disappointing apartment. First, the walls are paper thin. So thin, in fact, that I can clearly hear my neighbors having normal conversations on the phone (and you can only imagine what else I can hear as well). Next, the lighting is absolutely terrible. There is only one hanging light in the kitchen (which isn't bright enough) and 3 lights in the bathroom and three small wall lights in the hallway. (Had to replace all of the bulbs they provided when i moved in with day time bulbs because it was so dark). There are times where it will be 3 in the afternoon in the middle of summer and I will have to have all my lights turned on because it is so dark with just my few small windows (only in the living room). There is no natural light in the bedroom or kitchen so any time you are in either of those rooms you have to have a light turned on. Speaking of the windows, you are only permitted to open one of your windows (of the four ones that i have) (probably because theyre too cheap to put screens in each window) so there is no good way of airing out your apartment (which, since it is all carpet, will hold many many smells).
Next, I have absolutely no cellular service in my entire apartment, so when my internet is out (which has happened many times) ((do NOT let the Bridgeview talk you into getting money hungry Discernity for your internet. Go At&t)) all i can do is sit and stare at the wall. Also, the one wall that I have to plug my router into is magnetic which completely messes with the signal and makes it extremely slow.
Next, storage. There is only one small drawer in my entire apartment so you're completely on your own when it comes to figuring out storage. There are a couple cabinets in the kitchen (one is above the fridge which you cant even reach easily unless you're 7 feet tall, so they're useless) and one cabinet under the sink in the bathroom. There is a small closet for coats and all the boxes I had to leave unpacked when i moved in because theres not enough room for me to put all of my stuff (which isn't a lot).
Now, when you tour the apartment the layout will seem like the coolest layout ever. Wrong. The bedroom has a half wall that looks out into the living room which is cool at first but 1.) if you have guests over and need to change or something, its very uncomfortable with the little privacy you have, 2.) if you have cats and you close them out of the bedroom at night, they can easily jump up onto the half wall and into the bedroom.
Speaking of pets, cats have to be declawed which is COMPLETELY unethical.
Now to talk about management and maintenance. There are CONSTANTLY apartment checks where management will come into your apartment and do god knows what. If I remember correctly, during the winter season there were about 5 or 6 times they came and checked EVERYONES apartments. Its very, very uncomfortable.
The maintenance guys are very nice so I feel badly complaining, but I am starting to get irritated with the amount of times that they come into my apartment without my knowledge. Forgive me if im wrong, but shouldn't I be getting a few hour notice before someone comes barging into my apartment? What if I had dogs that need to be locked up when people they didn't know came over and I wasn't home? What if my dog bites them because I wasn't given a notice and couldn't put them away before maintenance came in? I once had maintenance come into my apartment while I was sleeping and it was EXTREMELY uncomfortable. And today (which pushed me over the edge, and inspired me to write this review) my boyfriend had to run back into my apartment to grab something and saw maintenance try to get in to my apartment without even knocking. HOW is that okay?? I could be in the shower for all they know. (Management WILL be hearing from me about this). They have a texting system set up for when you get packages and what not, why cant they do that for maintenance as well? And it makes me so uncomfortable knowing that there are times they've been in my apartment without me knowing because who knows they aren't stealing anything?
What else.
During the coldest months of the year, my furnace broke. Twice. I was stuck without heat in less than 20° weather. My dishwasher was broken before I even moved in. Ive had my ceiling leak brownish, orange goo from the apartment above me, etc.
If you're looking for an apartment downtown, I would advise to look anywhere besides the Bridgeview. Its not worth the rent you're paying.
