let me be clear upfront i am comparing this place to the Holy Land of cheesesteaks. Philadelphia. (Pats, Genos, Tony Lukes, Jims etc...)
Was very excited to check this place out. Cheesesteaks are one of my favorite foods. When I lived on the east coast we would drive to Philly just to get them(usually stopping in Atlantic City too).
I have tried Geno's twice over the past 2 weeks in case i caught them on a bad day. unfortunately that didnt seem like the case.
In general I prefer whiz without so that is what I ordered. the first thing you notice is that they dont really fill up the sandwich with meat/cheese. the bread tends to be a little dry. the meat doesnt quite compare to what you get in Philly and the whiz seems to be a little runny. the taste was OK but nothing special.
the side of fries was generic. i did like the zub sauce that was made available for the fries.
i'll prob give them a 3rd try in a month or two to see if anything has changed.
again I am comparing them to Philadelphia since they are using the name Geno's. Geno's in Gilbert blows away places like Jerry's and Subway and may very well be the best place in the Phoenix area. i wouldnt know since this is the first cheesesteak place i've tried here.
