| - This store has two sides. From a sales perspective, our salesman Dave was great. Very knowledgeable and helpful. We were looking for some end tables and he knew where each of them were in the store.
Checking out was a bit odd. I tried my Debit/Credit card, but I told them to run it as a credit. They said they needed my pin number to do this. I've used my debit card many times as a credit card and have never been asked for a pin. Red flag (I use credit rather than debit because the buyer has more protection on a credit card transaction.
Of course, when you're buying furniture, you'd actually like to take possession of it. That is where we ran into a problem. Mega Furniture wanted to charge us $100 for delivery, so we decided to pick up our furniture at their warehouse at 39th Ave and Mohave. We went down there during the prescribed hours. They did not have the end tables. Moreover, they are "special order" only.
At this point we decided to back out of the transaction. They couldn't (or wouldn't) help us at the warehouse, so we had to head back to the store on Elliot Road in Tempe. By this time were reading all the other reviews on Yelp and expected problems (Yes, we should have checked Yelp first). 40% restocking fees etc.
When we got to the store, the woman at the counter said that the manager was in the bathroom. She decided to refund us our entire purchase price (though she did tell her co-worker that she hoped she wouldn't get in too much trouble for it).
In 20/20 hindsight, there were plenty of red flags here:
1. The issue with the debit card
2. The language on the contract which was so heavily in favor of the seller (40% restocking fees, all sales final ...)
3. An unreasonably high charge for delivery ($100 - We've had furniture delivered before - The fee is normally 1/2 this).
Net net - Check Yelp before you try out a new place. You'll save a lot of hassle.
