  • I understand why this store is hyped. One look at Bang Bang's daily long lines emphasizes the opportunity to sell the dessert trend where Bang Bang's actual customer base lives. I too, crave ice cream wrapped in the cakey goodness of egg waffles. The cute logo and chalkboard menu helps sell the image of their store - a huge contrast to the outdated oily Chinese food court stalls surrounding it. No doubt, the usual food court crowd must be puzzled by the influx of young Asians queuing for ice cream and waffles at the cost of a ricebox. That said, having spoken to the owner, I do admire their entrepreneurial spirit in starting a store like this. However, quite a few things they could improve on does catch my eye. The line up is really the fault of the amount of time it takes to make two egg waffles. Have you ever bought egg waffle at the Asian malls? They take 1-2 minutes, not the 5-7 minutes here! The waffle making is extremely inefficient and to make matters worse, they only have 2 machines. It's a bit ridiculous to wait 20 minutes for your order because they make waffles at the rate of 5 minutes for 2 waffles. They slowly sprinkle in the flavouring individually in each egg pod instead of developing a better technique such as using a shaker. The waffle is most likely over cooked (the waffle looks quite dark and dry in almost every pic you can find of this place) and probably doesn't need that sort of cooking time. I think they try to emphasize too much on the crispiness of the waffle but I've eaten better waffle with a much softer interior an equally crunchy exterior. The flavourings themselves are interesting but honestly, I think something more simple like green tea flavoured might taste better. The one thing I would come again for is the soft serve icecream. One good thing is you don't really have to wait too long since the waffles is the bottleneck. Ice cream on the other hand, can be served almost immediately after you pay. In terms of the ice cream, I do prefer a more intense matcha flavour than what they sell, but the ice cream itself is quite creamy and great for a snack once in a while.
