  • I took my daughter (11) and her friend (13) on the 90 minute trail ride. They were both nervous and my daughter's friend had never been on a horse. Our guide kept the girls between him and myself for safety. Five minutes into the ride, the girls were no longer nervous and had a blast. Our guide pointed out the flowering cacti, a few lizards, and even an old hollowed out tree stump with coins in it -A Cowboy Wishing Well- (bring coins). I was 3rd rider back and thanks to the wind, at times it was hard to hear the guide, so we would pass on the information to riders behind us. It was warm (June), dusty, dirty, etc etc, oh no! Nature it's on me! But as to be expected considering it is a desert. If you're an experienced rider, the trail can get a little boring as the horses follow each other -nose to rump- in a meandering path with a couple of short uphill climbs and down-hill slopes, but it was perfect for the girls who left with the feeling of accomplishment and pride as they recanted tales of "OMG, it was so scary when we went down hill!" and "Did you see me get my horse going again when it tried to stop and eat??" A few tips: Sunscreen is a must, don't wear shorts, be prepared to get very dusty, read the "how to" post on the side of the little office building if you're new, and bring cash to tip your guide.
