| - Hofbrauhaus is not for me. They have tasty sandwiches (pretzel sandwich!), pretzels and beer cheese, and--of course--beer. The Dunkel is the best of the regular options, to my taste.
I'm not into the whole concept-- the canned, Disney-version-of-Bavaria with Oompa accordion music, waitresses in skimpy outfits, drunk people standing on communal tables, kitschy sing-alongs, mega-sized TV screens with all the sports events blaring-- just no. The noise and the crowds mean that you need to go there for the express purpose of enjoying the aforementioned other stuff. There's no doubt it's a fun place; it's just that Hofbrauhaus is not my idea of fun. I feel a bit bad about writing a critical review without suggestions for improvement, as it's the whole corporate concept that's not to my taste. The point of this review is to suggest that there are so many better options for grown ups to drink a beer in Pittsburgh, especially if conversation is a goal. If watching sports, singing, and getting smashed are goals, then you might have a heck of a fun time.
