I recently visited this Massage Envy (ME). I called to book an appointment on my way home from work as I was suffering from a migraine headache. I booked a 90-min massage with Todd. Upon my arrival to ME, I was checked in and asked to fill out paperwork.
When I went back to the room with Todd, I was asked if there was a specific complaint I was visiting for today - so I explained that I had a migraine and was looking for relief. He then told me that they do not massage clients with migraines. This came as a shock to me as I have received massages for migraines in the past at various ME locations. He tried to explain that migraines are vascular and they may "damage" something by "pushing on blood vessels". This made no sense to me as my neurologist recommended massages as a form of treatment (in addition to medications, etc.)
Naturally, I was curious as to the research behind what Todd had said. I went online to research migraines and massages - and found many articles stating that massage is an effective form of treatment.
This one surprised me most of all:
https://www.massageenvy.com/massage/massage-benefits/migraine
This is an article on THE ME WEBSITE stating how massages are beneficial to migraines! Here's a statement directly from this article:
Massage Envy's professional therapists can provide services designed to reduce symptoms associated with migraines, so you experience lasting relief and peace of mind, as well as many other benefits.
Apparently ME therapists/front office managers are not aware of what their company advertises???? Will definitely NOT be returning! Good thing Massage1 just opened around the corner!
