| - The next time I agree to see a movie at AMC someone needs to take a 2x4 and smack me upside the head. Hard.
I am *normally* a Harkins girl. However, I had two free passes to this theater; the location relative to where I live is nice so I decided to take my kids and their friend to the movies. My first indication that this would be an expensive trip was the final price tag on the extra tickets I purchased, as they were more $3 more per person. Not having a loyalty cup or a "Stub Hub" card, I ended up dropping another $30 on concessions for everyone. This was my choice, as I could have sneaked in snacks in my purse like everyone. The process of ordering and getting the food was far more complicated than it needed to be. How hard is it to walk up to a counter, order, pay and leave with food? No. . . at AMC there was this weird cafeteria-style line that, despite a college degree, I couldn't quite figure out. The food was overpriced, the popcorn was stale and refills were only for "Stud Hub" card members (which is ridiculous if I am paying that much for popcorn and a soda). The movie experience itself was fine. Reclining seats were nice. Theater was clean. Can't really complain.
We're a family of five and going to the movies shouldn't necessarily break the bank. I did the math and even with two free passes, we still spent more money on tickets and food than had we gone elsewhere. It's hard to justify going back to an AMC Theater when there is locally-owned option that includes conveniently located theaters, cheaper tickets, better concessions (both in terms of price and quality), and an ordering system that doesn't require a flow chart.
