There's only a small handful of places I refuse to go back to... 751 is one of those places. Permanently on my black list.
The first time I went here was for someone's birthday party and I wasn't very impressed at all. I was never a fan of their previous bar either: The Queenshead. This place is dirty and smells, but I guess those are appealing factors for people who actually enjoy dive bars. I remember spending a lot of time in the basement, which was even more gross than the upstairs. I felt like I was in some dodgy drug dealer's living room. Again, I guess these are qualities some people look for. Everyone was drinking pitchers of draft because I guess it was inexpensive, but thinking back it makes my stomach turn.
The second (and last time) I made an appearance was a little more bearable. The first night was a weekend and rammed full of drunken jocks and the girls they were trying to molest. This time was a weekday and the crowd was thinned out and a lot more polite and well-behaved. The music was dreadful but I just tried to focus on hanging with my friends. I remember sitting at a booth on the main floor and a brutal draft running up my legs, and it was winter time. I was freezing. I stuck with bottled beer this time around though managed to knock down a few shots, which I recall being served in plastic cups. Classy.
It has been probably almost two years since I was last here and I've had no desire to go back. Anytime I have walked by during the evening I usually hear the usual trash music blaring from the main room, along with a crowd of boisterous barely-legal kids smoking outside. 751 lacks any redeeming qualities in my opinion. Mind you I am 34 years old and have never been a fan of stinky dive bars to begin with.
