| - Our family has been shopping at Rideau for over 25 years, ever since we moved to Alberta and I signed up for piano lessons.
Whether you are a classical musician or contemporary, Rideau Music has the most extensive selection of sheet music in the city. Their downtown location is the oldest and has the largest stock of the three stores.
They carry the books from all beginner series available as well as all the music conservatories in Canada. They have everything from music for solo voice, piano, strings, percussion to various ensemble configurations. Great selection of fake books and they are extremely supportive of Canadian authors and composers.
Price-wise, you can buy pop folios and fake books cheaper on Amazon, but Rideau's edge is on customer service. They excel at special orders, even hard requests, like a piano concerto by Russian composer Arensky, which was impossible to get in North America.
Their staff is extremely knowledgeable and can help you out. They even give good recommendations on whether Edition A is better than Edition B when comparing editions.
It's too bad that they had to move upstairs to a smaller location. That hampers the amount of stock that's on the floor. Plus, with the ongoing construction, parking is a supreme pain in the butt!
Rideau also sells a variety of music paraphernalia, such as ties, bags and games; along with theory textbooks and general reference books.
