If their reviews are any indication of the public perception of Dollar Rent A Car it should be clear this company doesn't care about their customers. Unfortunately I made a reservation online to rent from them and $146 was charged online as a deposit. When I arrived to get my car I was told they don't accept debit cards so in a hurry to get a car I requested they cancel my booking. I followed up to EZ rent-a-car who was more than happy to facilitate me with a car. I proceeded to email Dollar car later that week as my deposit had not been refunded. I was told that they would not be because it's in their policy that you must provide a major credit card and that's standard industry practice. It is not standard practice to not accept Debit as I've never had a problem before and didn't when I went with EZ rent-a-car in the same terminal immediately after canceling my booking with dollar. Dollar is owned by Hertz and I've had rentals with them with only a debit card in the past. The standard I've been given by reputable companies is to charge a higher deposit amount on the debit card and great customer service when there's a problem that needs resolution. Inconvenience is less the word I'd use to describe the situation when it's more like stealing from people because I told the associate to cancel my reservation at the desk which would entitle me to a refund minus a penalty fee. They're playing hardball and keeping my money. Never again will I work with Dollar, Thrifty or Hertz and I suggest you all try some of the other more honest and friendly rental agencies to choose from if you want to avoid the headaches clearly associated with this company from other reviewers.
