  • Hype is a real bitch. When I was pregnant, everyone and their cousin said "You HAVE to go to Moms to Be". My first visit to the store was 4 days post-baby when my chest exploded and I realized I needed a nursing tank top and the Danforth area did not yet have such a store offering such items (now it does- Evy Mama). I rushed in, in the early morning on a cold March day, and was able to quickly secure help so that was good. The help I did get was good, but not great. They were receiving stock at the time and I guess that was more important than helping a 4 days post-partum new mom find a tank top in a sea of nursing products. And it was just ok. They do have a lot of stuff. They've kind of cornered the market on Uppa Baby stuff which is, well, it's called a Monopoly but that's semantics. I did order my Uppa Baby umbrella stroller from there and I had an internal conflict about the price, except that, and here's where I get political, I'm just from a different neighbourhood and socioeconomic background than a lot of the mothers in this 'hood and I actually use my stroller to go to places other than Starbucks and Moms to Be, which is how I could justify the purchase. I really wanted to like Moms to Be, but I find it a baby factory like many stores of this nature. I find the pricing absurd on many items where it is clear they have the ability to decrease the margin but elect not to. The location is not convenient for people travelling with new babies, there's no parking and it's fend for yourself on Bayview which is a whole other problem. Pros? Lots of stock, a decent online store and lots of yuppie gold if that's your bag. Cons? Not great help, uber expensive, and catering to a very specific crowd of people to which I clearly don't belong.
