  • This place isn't perfect, but then what typical apartment complex can make that claim? And compared to the one we left down the street (Ventana "Luxury" Apartments - see inglorious Yelp review), this place was a godsend(!): The only ants are on the sidewalks, not infesting our apartment; the ceiling doesn't leak whenever it rains - in fact, nothing leaks(!); the neighbors are whisper-quiet (except by the pools); the 2-bedroom apartments are spacious (twice the size of 1-bedrooms); the kitchen/appliances/faucets/windows are all modern versions of each, not from way back in the '80s (so no history lesson is needed); the maintenance people are super-nice and don't make up tight-wad excuses why things can't be fixed; it's a great place for the dogs, with lots of grassy areas and winding sidewalks; the stairways to the 2nd-floor apartments are built like a tank, and only feed two apartments (not 8), so no one will wake you up at all hours pounding up and down them like a bowling ball bouncing down rickety steps; and the water has only been turned off once since we've been here, so that hasn't been a recent issue. On the downside, there are a few minor problems, in my mind, which knock this place down a star. Such as there isn't much space for storage (this could be an issue for people needing extra storage), which consists only of a quirky-designed (triangular-shaped) closet in each bedroom (as well as the space directly above each closet) and a single shelf above both the washer and the dryer. There also isn't a ton of guest parking, and you can bet the farm that the choicest spots invariably seem be taken by people storing vehicles (as in those cars/trucks don't move an inch for weeks/months). Also, the landscaping crew takes very little pride in picking up all the sticks/branches/debris (that fall off the many trees) or dealing with all the piles of leaves in the parking lots. (Though this is really only an issue if you're one of the few unlucky ones - like us - to get a covered parking space with a curb on the driver's side - meaning that some of those leaves/debris ultimately, end up on your vehicle's floor mat.) Honestly, I'd pay the extra $20/mo. to get a truly professional crew out here that can do the job right. The grounds would look better, and not so cluttered. There's also an issue with the doggie waste receptacles, which oftentimes seem to be overflowing, bursting at the seams, as they don't always get emptied in a timely fashion (which is both an eyesore and a smellsore). Though none of these issues are a deal breaker. In fact, there's nothing too serious enough to report to not want to live here, nor to rate Broadstone anything less than 4 stars. Compared to the nightmarish place we were previously in, this complex almost seems like resort living. We really like the apartment, the location, and everyone we've met! So, overall, I give two thumbs up for Broadstone Scottsdale Horizon. A much-needed breath of fresh air!
