I'm not sure why the reviews on this place is rated so highly...
I came here this past weekend after a long trafficy drive from LA. I called Umiya Sushi on the way there and ask how long the wait it would be for 2 people. They told me it was around 15-20 minutes. I didn't mind and I was hungry so we drove here anyway. It was about 3/4 full and we got seated fairly quickly (didn't end up waiting 15-20 min).
We decided to just go with AYCE and not the a la carte menu because we thought it would be around the same price. I do understand they have a 90 minute time limit for dining in. To be honest, I usually don't take that long to eat as long as the food comes out in a decent time period. They were very pushy and I felt very rushed while eating. I had not even been there for 30 minutes and at least 3 people came by and kept trying to get us to order more food. I see their tricks...order fast, fill up on rice, gtfo quicker. No thanks. Just wanted to enjoy my sushi.
Their fish was decent but man...they put so much rice on their rolls. Ive been to places back in LA where they aren't trying to rob you of your money by giving you 5:1 rice to fish ratio.
Also, one of the servers put down a half order of sunrise roll. The sunrise roll consisted of:
Inside: spicy crab
Top: salmon, avocado, green onion
Sauce: Spicy ponzu
As soon as he placed it down, he told his manager (might possibly be the owner too) and said the avocado looked a little off and brown... Manager came by, inspected the roll in front of us and told us the avocado looked bad and then said he would make us a new one. Why would you even place the sushi down in the first place if it looks bad? It made me feel more uneasy when he came over and inspected it and then told us it looked bad.
I guess.....Thanks for not letting us eat bad avocado, but no thanks for making me not want to eat it at all, even if it was a new one.
I think its safe to say I wont be returning here...
