| - I have spoken to Veterans who have had ongoing medical issues and appointment issues with the Phoenix VA. I have been in with friends who are patients and observed the following:
The medical staff, of whom the veterans come into contact with, are rude, and incompetent. Some of the Veterans are made to feel, by the medical staff, that Veterans are cattle and an inconvenience.
The most common phrases from Medical Staff are:
Medical Staff: It's not my job or we cant treat this or we will make you another appointment later, OR if the family members ask too many questions or become more demanding for treatment or a family member asks this question: Have you even read this Veteran's Medical Chart one family was told:
'The VA can take your family member away from the family and put them in a Nursing Home without consent because the patient belongs to the VA'.....
Nursing Staff: They do NOT have enough Specialty TRAINED Nursing Staff to handle all types of medical situations (ie., Amputations, Heart, etc). Arizona VA only has basically trained Nursing Staff and only one or two Nurses on the floors who are trained extensively for certain Specialties; Hence there is NOT specifically trained staff for the medical situation on hand ALL THE TIME to do what needs to be done for that medical situation due to the fact that the specialty trained nurse is off duty.
Not to mention how the Nursing Staff will stand at their Nursing Stations Gossiping about sick patients and ignore family members as THE FAMILY MEMBERS STAND RIGHT THERE.
The Travel Office Supervisor (TOS) is arrogant and disrespects Veterans coming in for their Travel pay. The TOS talks loudly about his 'INCOMPETENT STAFF' and that he was having to review all accounts and would be reviewing the Veterans' accounts and 'make the Veterans 'pay for his staff's errors'.
As for the Medical Administration Service: All staff should be replaced; from Supervisors to Clerical Staff. Clerical Staff are rude and disrespectful to Veterans. When the Supervisors are requested by the Veterans or their families, the Supervisors are NEVER available...they are on breaks or in meetings or dont have time to come down to listen to the complaints.
I find all of this very disturbing and upsetting that my Government is allowing the DISRESPECT to Veterans to continue, the UNCARING attitudes of the Phoenix VA Staff towards Veterans/families, and the lack of REAL medical care for veterans.
I am truly DISGUSTED with the care the Veterans are receiving at the Phoenix VA. Several complaints have been made to the Department of Veterans' Affairs and the Office of the Inspector General's Office....with absolutely no response.
The VA Medical Staff need to be investigated by the the Arizona State Medical Board, the Arizona State Nursing Board, and the United States Surgeon's General's Office.
I feel that the Veterans at the Phoenix VA are Medically at RISK being treated by such INCOMPETENT and DISRESPECTFUL Staff. My next question would be ....How many Veterans have died at this particular VA?? And for what reasons??? And remember this: The ACA was modeled after the VA System; And the US Government just ignores this ongoing situation.
