  • I do not like it when people complain and say things like, "There are no good restaurants in Phoenix." Usually I just grimace and say something like, "WTF are you talking about! Of course there are! Hundreds of them!" Case in point: Maizie's off Central and Camelback. It's in walking distance to the light rail stop, and that just rocks. When you walk in to this little bistro cafĂ© you are greeted by a friendly staff and a hip, urban atmosphere. Sleek, modern furniture lines the walls and fills the dining room. A floor to ceiling wine rack (full of wine bottles) serves as a false wall and gives the place a cozy, yet surprisingly open feel. The glass walls that look out onto Central Ave. allow for views of the light rail trains zipping by and make Maizie's even more urban and enjoyable. They have an outside patio too. And the food! Heaven, thy name is BBQ Beef Brisket from Maizie's. Honestly, the brisket was so tender I didn't even need a knife to cut it. The brisket was served with cornbread that was more like a corn patty that I inhaled much like a big, hideous pig with the snorting and the squealing and the oinking. No, I jest. I didn't make that much noise. The dinner came with a fresh pasta salad with sliced mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, and asparagus then drizzled with olive oil and parmesan cheese. The dinner portion was a perfect amount of food. I didn't feel like I was stuffing myself with everything on the plate. I left feeling satisfied but not so full I was sick. They had a lovely dessert menu and it took all my strength to skip it but I did since I'm watching my figure. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and have a wide selection of wines and cocktails. I thought the prices were beyond reasonable for the quality and size. (The dinner special I had was $11.00.) Maizie's is a triumph and a great addition to Central Phoenix.
