| - I went to Growlers last night to check out Beer Education, a special event taking place on the first Tuesday of every month starting at 7pm. It's on their website, but the information about it is a little vague, so I had no idea what to expect. When I got there, I grabbed a table and asked our waiter how it works. In short, Growlers provides everyone in the bar a small pour (~ 4 oz) of 4 different beers from a featured brewery. They don't come all at once - you get one at a time. With each pour, a beer expert from the distributor gives great information about what you're trying. In short, my first Beer Edu experience was the bomb. The featured brewery was Ommegang in NY. If you've not had their beer before, I recommend trying it. They were all delicious and unique.
I also ordered some food because it was dinner time and I was hungry (borderline HANGRY). I really wanted a salad but I didn't want to commit to the full-size salad. Thankfully, our server allowed me to order a half salad and he charged me accordingly. I thought that was awesome! I got the salad with goat cheese, cranberries, and candied walnuts with a sherry dressing. It was delicious. I also ordered a side of mac and cheese. The mac and cheese featured curly noodles in a very thick cheese sauce packed with good flavor. I really enjoyed it. It was heavy, so I'm glad the side was portioned appropriately.
It did get very crowded and loud, which was not awesome for small talk with my friends. I think it was in part because of the Cubs / Indians baseball game. Bless our server - he was trying to keep up with the bar and tables, which was difficult because it got so crowded. I'm hoping this is a-typical. I am definitely going to Growlers again, and I'll be back for another Beer Education for sure!
