| - Zipp - you don't get it ---- I have had it with this place, never to back again - I have lived in the neighborhood since 1983 and thought the place was OK - but kind of a dive but, comfortable place where one should enjoy themselves. I think the original founders probably did really care - but Zipp and the gang are really just out for the buck.
Nothing wrong with a buck but when George Bush visited there - their business went up significantly - and they raised the prices - Not everyone in Arcadia is wealthy including myself.
The staff over the years has never seemed to care about whether you were there or not - and I stopped going for a number of years. A few years ago - I broke down and took my wife in on a Friday night ------ out jumps a cockroach - from my wife's lettuce next to her red chile burro - staff just tried to keep me quiet and in my opinion insinuated that I planted the roach. Then they asked my name to take down the information and I told them ---- Nick - then the manager wanted my last name and I told him "Bush". They didn't laugh. I did file a complaint with the health department online.
I stopped going again for several years ---- and last month - I broke down and got food to go - it was not bad --- However, tonight did it and I am telling you in my opinion they don't care about the customer. I noticed over the last several years --- business has been down when I drove by -- and they have made some changes now to the structure in an apparent attempt to get back some lost business.
Anyhow ----- tonight I called up and as usual - their phone service was awful -- The fellow answering the phone picks up and yells tee pee - I couldn't understand him - and thought maybe I was phoning a Chinese place. Then when I told him I wanted an order for pickup - he said - hold on let me get one of my girls to get it for you. Come on - this is 2012 - one of my girls - excuse me.
I ordered three chile burros, one cheese crisp, one side of rice and beans. When the cashier rang it up it came to 39 dollars and some cents ---- I thought to myself what the heck is going on (13 dollars a person - notice it was only two side dishes) ---- I said I thought that sounded like a lot --- and the cashier checked the bill - said that it was right - and then the fellow who brought the food out said - the prices are on the menu - I said I believed him, just that it seemed like a lot of money for take out and not very many items. I told them that the pricing would definitely influence me not coming back regularly. Oh I must say the chips were included - and they offered to give me a menu to take - No thank you.
First, if they had kept the quality up from the very old days - gave the customers more and better attention - not over done it on the price increases due to Bush eating there - my guess is that business would not have fallen as it did despite the recession - so now they have gone into a survival mode type of situation and spent a ton of money on a patio ect ect ect. Well I am not going to pay for it - to eat -- not bad Mexican Food (if there is no cockroach around), but definitely average and that is stretching it.
I will never go back and I would definitely - never recommend it to anyone, especially visitors. Their early success of providing a quality meal, at a reasonable price, in a quaint location - has not been followed by the current owners or staff. Methinks not and never again. I will search for a Mexican rest that wants my business, has quality food and charges more reasonably.
