| - I went to Sushi Koma some time ago a few years back and I had a pretty great experience. I didn't get a chance to write a review then so I guess I will now.
They had a previous, smaller location that I had gone to, and I guess they have since moved to a bigger one in the same plaza more towards the back end. This was apparently done ~2-3 months ago. From what I remember, I do like this newer place better. It has a lot more space for not only people, but also for decor, and the sushi bar is definitely bigger.
The place looks very nice on the inside and has a more traditional feel than the previous place. I feel that I get easily detracted by tacky decor and contrasting wallpaper, although I did not feel that there. However, I did question, not quite object, the need for a big screen TV at a sushi restaurant (I believe there may even be more than one).
We came as a party of 3 with a hankering for sushi at 1:30 AM on a Tuesday, so I can't say I know what service is like during peak times. We were seated immediately and our orders were taken very soon after. Our server was very kind and was patient of our questions and orders. (Yes, you can do half rolls!)
The quality of their fish is definitely better than most places I've tried here in town, and the price is all relatively the same for AYCE here in Las Vegas. For dinner price, it was $25.95 per person, which I believe is a great price for a decent amount of variety and quantity. Their appetizers hit the spot, and the hand rolls taste quite fresh. Most of these are pretty standard, although you MUST try the Tuna Carpaccio!
I HIGHLY recommend the Big B Roll! (Although it's only one roll per person.) It's like any shrimp tempura roll but added with teriyaki beef on top. It's definitely something different but combine that with the "chef's special" sauce and it somehow works very well together. I also enjoyed their Bank Roll, PCH, Ninja, Rainbow Roll, and Tropicana Roll. I'll definitely make it a point to try some different things on my next visit. The ratio of fish-to-rice on the rolls were decent and I saw no attempt to cram a ton of seaweed and rice with very few protein in between.
For me, the food was pretty great, but the service is what really made our night spectacular. Our server's name was Ben, and I hope we get him again next time! We were always taken care of whenever he was needed and he never forgot us when it came to more rolls and refills on drinks. Unlike most servers, he is also not very stiff nor is he shy at making good conversation with you without also forgetting to attend to his duties. VERY fun guy, indeed, and he was super easy to talk to from the moment we were seated.
My only complaint is that while the music is good and fun, it is WAY too loud. Thankfully, the friends I went with were very vocal and laughed so hard that we didn't mind too much in the end. But if you're trying to have a more quiet dinner, this may not exactly be the place for it.
I can't wait to come back! :)
