AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!!!!
I have never regretted a decision more than hiring public moving services for my long distance move. Their sales person quoted me approximately $7400 for my move from Seattle to San Diego and told me I would likely end up with a cost starting with a 6. I had received quotes from Allied, North American and United that came in between $8k and $9k. He asked for the inventory sheets from these other companies to verify that the items and volume I reported were accurate. He assured me that I would not be charged any more than their binding quote of $7400.
Fast forward to the day before my move. Dispatch called and tried to push my move to a later date. After much pushback from me they agreed to my original moving date.
When they arrived on moving day the lead mover stepped inside of my house and within 15 seconds was adding charges to my bill. He told me that he would need to wrap my furniture in additional bubble wrap to protect it. Mind you I've done 3 long distance moves so I know this is unnecessary and just a way for them to nickle and dime their customers. After my disagreement he walked my property and reported that the volume of my move was larger than they thought. (Remember when I sent them the inventory sheet from two companies who came out to my home and physically looked at my items???) ultimately the bill totaled over $11,000. You heard me right. $4k more that Allied. They knew we had no choice with it being moving day and not being able to book another mover and they took advantage of us. We ended up giving away a lot of furniture that was on our original inventory sheet so we could save some money. Items I didn't want to get rid of but had no choice.
Oh! And let's talk about their sales rep who gave me his cell phone number and told me to call him with any concerns. Day of the move when I call... he has dropped off the face of the earth. Of course he has. You really can't force people to have integrity but you always wish that they do.
Not only did they charge us $4k more than a well know and reputable company, they also drug the move into the next day which in turn left us scrambling to reschedule hotels, carpet cleaning, and other personal obligations. Not to mention we had to borrow from family and friends to come up with the $4,000 we weren't planning on spending. After the truck was loaded on the second day they told us that we could pay the second half of the amount due on a credit card.
I honestly have never felt more taken advantage of in my entire life.
About a week later we received a call on Saturday afternoon at 145pm. They reported that they would be at our house at 830 the next morning (Sunday) and that we needed to pay the balance in cash or cashiers check. Forget the promise of a credit card. PS banks close at 2pm on Saturdays. So again we were scrambling and running to accommodate this crooked company.
And here is the best part. When the truck arrived it was a North American truck. Can you believe it? This company acts as a middle man and skims off the top. No wonder they had to come in and charge me more than I was quoted on their "binding" quote.
Upon opening our boxes we had multiple items broken and damaged. I have NEVER had this happen with other movers. Our boxes were smashed and falling apart by the time they reached us.
All I can say is that this company is criminal and they are scammers. They take advantage of people during a stressful time and basically steal money. My advice is to ALWAYS book with a well known moving company, even if they are more expensive. Because ultimately they are going to be cheaper in the long run.
STAY FAR AWAY FROM PUBLIC MOVING SERVICES
