  • I arrived at around 1pm for lunch after working a 12 hour graveyard shift. As I pulled into the parking lot a bum approached the front of my car and stopped me, he asked me to roll down my window, I could smell the alcohol coming off his breath mixed with the smell of unwashed body... after explaining to me that he "wasn't lying and telling the truth" and needed three dollars to get on a bus to take his "kid' (pointing at a wall where no one was) home I told him I had no cash... after staring at me for a moment deciding what to do about that I cut him off and told him to have a good day and good luck... and then proceeded to try to find a new parking spot as someone went around me and took the good parking spot that I was aiming for before I was approached by said bum!...... I have read reviews and you really don't understand how small this place is from reading them. the size of the bedroom... I mean... their dining area... is smaller then the size of my master bedroom.... You could not fit two king sized beds in the main dining room area. after getting over that shock, I signed in and proceeded to wait. after about 20 minutes four people from the bar area left and I was seated... Now I'm a bigger dude. I push about 290 on a good day and the stool i was on was uncomfortable and flimsy but for some miracle it didn't break! I ordered a mini Mentaiko and a Tonkotsu Ramen. The Mentaiko was actually very tasty, those eggs do give a good spicy kick, but once I mixed everything up with the rice and added some soy sauce it wasn't long before it was gone. The Ramen was flavorful , I added more chashu pork, nitamago (hard boiled egg) and nori to the bowl when I ordered. The broth had a ton of flavor to it. I really did like it. however, I noticed that the noodles are pre-packaged and did not have any sustenance to them they were a little bit of a let down and I wasn't really into them but they didn't take away from, nor add anything of value to the soup broth itself. The Chashu Pork was melt in your mouth good. I don't think it was worth the extra 2.95 for the extra two paper thin slices though. however, the extra cost for the 1.50 for the egg was definitely worth it and to be honest, the server I had was actually really nice and she worked really hard to make sure everyone was happy which I really liked to see. after paying in cash... I ended up getting most of it to go and I just finished the last bit of it while writing this review... (for some reason after re-heating it actually tastes more flavorful! that's kinda odd)... I would recommend giving Monta at least a try... it's not spectacularly good but it's good enough that I'd come back and try some of the other broths.. I have been to Ichiza for Ramen too. (just up the road from this place heading east) and if I had to compare the both I'd say that Monta comes out on top in terms of the quality of the broth... if I could get Monta Broth with Ichiza Noodles it'd probably be the perfect bowl of Ramen. I've subtracted 1 star for just how small this place is and the fact that if you go by yourself you'll pretty much be forced to sit on the uncomfortable stools that promise either a fun trip to the ground if they break or a sore ass by the time you're done. I also subtracted 1 star because I didn't particularly care for their noodles. When you go, hopefully you won't be accosted by the homeless in the area, seems to be a lot of them hanging out around popular places trying to find "bus fare"
