I purchased a Jeld-wen French door from Lowe's with a three-point locking system. The door was installed and I noticed that the locking mechanism didn't allow for me to engage it fully. I called and reported this issue to Lowe's and was directed to the Jeld-wen installer. The repair guy from Jeld-wen came out and informed me that the issue I was having with the locking mechanism not engaging fully was a known issue to his company. He stated that this issue was supposed to have been resolved already and that we must have been given a door that was from old stock. The recessed cavity where the bolts slide in to secure the door are too shallow. His answer to this problem was to take a drill and bore into the door destroying the clean factory finished look and weakening the doors ability to withstand forced entry. I then complaining to Jeld-wen again and their answer to this was to send the same repairman out with paint to paint the areas where he drilled into the door. I then called Jeld-wen and explain to them that this was not what I paid for and that I would like to be reimbursed for 20% of the cost of my door which they agreed to. After about three weeks of no notification or hint that I would receive my 20% refund I complained to Lowe's and was told that Jeld-wen states they never agreed to refund 20%. They told Lowes's they only agreed to reimburse 5% of the cost of the door. The woman in charge of Lowe's install service says she spoke with representatives from Jeld-wen and they have now agreed to refund 10% of the cost of the door. The representative from Lowe's then explained to me that Lowes would cover the additional 10% to make it 20% total refund of the cost of the door. I am currently waiting on the refund to show on my credit card. I was told that it would be refunded this week. I commend Lowe's for having a great customer service and fighting to get things done when things don't go right with their installations but I will never purchase another Jeld-wen branded product from Lowe's again and I do not recommend that you do so as well Jeld-wen has very poor customer service and a shoddy merchandise at best.
