I waited until after writing this review to actually rate it based on this experience. I have been a Toni and Guy customer for years at another location, prior to moving away from Phoenix. I chose to get my hair cut here, because I have faith in the stylists. Today was no different than any other time I have called to set an appointment. The person on the other end was accommodating with the time and got me in right away. Upon my arrival he gave me a smock to put on and asked if I would like anything to drink. I found that extra touch very pleasant.
Now my stylist was friendly and I showed two pictures with lots of layers and informed him that this is what I want while keeping as much length as possible. He agreed that wouldn't be a problem and began cutting.
When I noticed he seemed to be done and my hair looked almost exactly like it did when I came in I questioned him about it his response somewhat irritated me. Prior to starting he had told me that the color is why the layers stand out. Now he's telling me it's all styling. He disregarded what I wanted and started styling the back of my hair. I sat quietly thinking of what to do next. Finally I politely stopped him and let him know that there was not enough layers and I really wanted the layering like in the pictures and so I have body in my hair. He seemed extremely agitated and almost upset by this finally after much conversation about this, he resumed cutting. I could tell he was extremely irritated hair was going in my eyes and face. He didn't care at that point it seemed.
Finally when it was done he did apologize for not understanding properly or listening, which I did appreciate. Having owned a 14 station salon I understand what stylists go through daily. I also understand hair and what I want! When paying for a service I expect the person on the other end to listen and ask questions along the way if it seems I am not satisfied, especially after voicing concern.
I also understand making sure to up sells by pushing products... I use only Vegan products on my hair after this was expressed to the check out person I was still pushed to buy the recommended products. I think I will return back to the Arrowhead location from now on.
I ended up giving three stars because after all was finished I do like the final product. I probably would have even gone with more layers and cleaned it up more, had I had it done exactly the way I wanted. I would have even paid more. The other thing that helped this situation was my stylist apologizing and doing what I had asked in the end.
