| - Came here only because all other Mediterranean places were closed, so we ended up at this dated restaurant in the armpit of Tempe. We sat down and were given a menu. My friend and I were both looking for kebabs. Before we could even read a word on the menu, the owner approached and starts a long winded description of his four specials. We tell him we just want kebabs and hummus dip and asked him to locate it on the menu. He tells us not to order the kebabs, even though that it was our final decision, and pushes his most expensive lamb dish on us. He pressured and grilled us for a few minutes, and kept rudely discouraging us from ordering the hummus and the kebabs we tried to order. We almost just ordered the expensive lamb "special" to get him away. We knew what we wanted, why did he have such a problem with it.
We politely insisted that he place the order for what we were craving, kebabs. He was a bit annoyed at this point, and he proceeded to try to get me to upgrade my hummus to the beef hummus - but I just wanted plain. He didn't like my hesitation but he just finally let me order my plain hummus. A little while later, our dishes arrive. The meat was decent. The hummus I begged for was ok, but the pitas were dry and cold.
While eating, the owner comes up to the table and was being very rude to me when I tried to compliment the chicken. Bitter about me declining the special and ordering something cheaper perhaps? After 30 something years in business, you would think one would learn how to deal with customers. Hey I'm sure the guy means well, but Jesus, politely recommend something and move on - don't pound us into submission.
Overall, this was a troublesome experience and I will not be coming back.
