| - The Flamingo should be your "go to" when you just need a reasonably priced centrally located Strip hotel to crash while you sightsee and/or casino hop. It's not fancy and doesn't have all the swanky amenities of the more plush hotels and the gaming area is a little smaller than some, but it'll definitely serve the purpose of acceptable crash pad.
We were able to score a room with a view of the High Roller for $34 a night the week after Xmas (but pre-New Years Eve of course!). This being Vegas, $34 is just your base price - there are "resort fees", daily parking ($10 I think) and sky-high tourism taxes. And you may want to upgrade your room - which the Flamingo's near-constant emails pre-arrival makes pretty easy. I absolutely INSIST you get a room with a view of the High Roller... check out my pictures - it was glorious waking up in the early morning with the sun rising over that thing and falling asleep to the light show at night... Worth it! Also if you have a lot of tech or more than one person in the room, you may want to consider upgrading to one of their "Go" rooms, which includes better tech options. OR - bring a power strip with you. Their standard and Fab Executive rooms have very few power outlets and plugging in devices is not easy or convenient.
My Fab Executive King room had "wood-toned" floors, a sofa, a decently comfy king bed and a knockout view of the High Roller. There was nothing special about the room except the view... it was your standard hotel room. Room service is almost non-existent at the Flamingo - that was a pet peeve... it's only available a few hours a day and the menu is very limited and unimaginative.
The only real attraction (I mean, unless you count Donny and Marie) at the Flamingo is the Wildlife Habitat, which is really very lovely and a great way to spend an early morning - they open at 8 and yes, you should get there at 8.
Parking garage is a bit of a pain... the elevator doesn't go all the way to the top floor. So, if you have the misfortune of having to park on the top floor (I did), you will have to drag your luggage up and down the stairs to get to the elevator.
Without a doubt, the BEST thing about the Flamingo is its central location... right next door to the Linq and on the Linq Promenade - the Flamingo is an ideal place to situate for hitting all the touristy things to see and do in Vegas. And the deals you can find on rooms make it even more of a good choice. For the fancy-schmancy luxury or romantic Vegas weekend... I would stay elsewhere. But for your basic mini break/bachelorette party/need to get away - the Flamingo will work very well.
