| - My wife and I discovered Olive & Olives during a visit to Montreal a few years ago, and it helped spark an ongoing passion and fascination with olive oil. Naturally, we were really excited to find out that Toronto recently got its own Olive & Olives.
The store is spacious and well-designed, with its walls lined with numerous bottles of olive oils and vinegars, a section of spices from Spice Trader on Queen St. W. toward the back of the store, a small cooking station also at the back where tasting and cooking seminars will take place, and an area near the front of the store where the staff allow patrons to try any of the oils sold in the store. This is really where the magic happens. The first step to really appreciating high-quality olive oils (that, yes, are higher priced than the stuff you'll find at the grocery store), is to taste a few side by side. This allows you to taste the fruity qualities of some oils, and the spicy notes in others.
The store specializes in Spanish olive oils (our favorite), but also has oils and vinegars from Italy, France and other countries. This place is definitely worth a visit.
