  • I hate to rock the boat on these guys but I had a different experience than most people. I came in the store with my radar down because of all the positive reviews. The people were friendly and helpful and seemed to provide good customer service. I brought in an older Dyson that was barely working. I had not examined it before bringing it in as I thought it was probably due for a service. They took my vacuum in the back and came back out in 5 minutes and said it needed a number of repairs and parts and would cost $200 to fix. They offered to give me a $200 trade-in allowance and that a new one would cost $305 out the door. Without doing any research I thought that sounded like a good deal and I agreed to his offer. While all this was going on a lot of other customers had come in and there was a line waiting for service about six deep and I could see my salesman getting worried about the line. He was trying to talk to them and deal with me too. So, while he was distracted I quickly checked Amazon to see how much new vacuums are going for. Well, it turns out they are $300 and the only difference to me would be the sales tax with my free Prime shipping. I looked at the Dyson web page and the price for the vacuum was also $299.99. So I decided to buy online instead and be able to keep my old my old vacuum. When I got home I turned the old vacuum over and discovered a flex hose was cracked and partially blocked with dirt. The hose was $7.88 on Amazon and was easy to replace. I watched a video on YouTube about what things needed cleaning and how to do it. I washed the reusable foam filter and ordered a new hepa filter ($13.99 for 2). I washed the canister in my laundry sink (a lot of dirt came out) and everything looked like new. I let it dry for 24 hours and tested it out. It works like new again. So, the moral of the story is, don't let all the good reviews cause you to let your consumer guard down. I was able to easily fix my old vacuum for less than $25 in parts, still have a spare hepa filter and avoid the cost of a new vacuum. I now know how easy it is to clean and fix these Dysons as long as the motor works. I agree that they definitely provide a good customer service experience there but I almost made a very bad decision. Fortunately they got busy and I had time to do some quick research on my phone. If I had not done my research real fast, I would have left happy and had a 5 star experience without knowing what just happened. Caveat Emptor!
