| rev:text | This is the only reasonably priced cigar shop just off Freemont St (at 4th Street). The cigar kiosk on Freemont and Vato Cigars (inside Binion's) were way overpriced. According to the guy working, Castro Cigars used to be housed in the White Castle building (on the corner) but had to move when the owner sold property.
Anyway, good selection in the humidor. The employee with the heavy cuban accent was trying to sell the overpriced Cohibas and Montecristo. I don't like either brand.
I am new to cigars, but I know prices and what I like to smoke. I don't like to overpay for cigars, unless I am in a high end cigar lounge like Montecristo (inside Cesar's Palace).
Cigar Inventory: high end (Ashton, Davidoff, AVO), to med (Undercrown, Oliva, Fuente, Padron), to cheap (JM's and brands I have never heard of). They even have a selection of house rolled cigars at a few dollars cheaper.
Prices are all over the place so do your homework or you may pay more than you have to. I went with a Liga Undercrown ($10)....delicious.
Me and my two buddies smoked in the front lobby cigar lounge. Pretty run down, comfy leather seats, and one large screen TV on the wall. The store is located just a few yards from Freemont, with lots of interesting "people" walking by. Def a good people watching spot.
Bring your own lighter. It will make things go faster.
Overall: I would stop by again, but did not like that the employee was pushing brands I was not interested in. Know what you want prior to going in so you don't get ripped off. |
