| - Fitworks, oh Fitworks. You make me very angry and not happy.
Here's the deal kids. I'm an ex-personal trainer for a fancy-pants gym in Chicago and I'm a gym rat. Yep, gym rat....I've belonged to as many as four gyms at one time because I needs me some variety people!
Fitworks is a mediocre gym at best. They have a decent amount of cardio equipment, and over-crowded free-weight room, more dumb meat-heads than I can begin to count. But where the failing really comes in is the customer care.
I went to this gym four years ago for a summer. I did a month to month contract and was raped fiscally for it. (Um, no you're not worth $30 a month). Fortunately, I was able to quit "anytime". I did have a decent experience w/ a head trainer there and decided that this spring I needed a little ass-whoopin' so I called to see if he was still around. He was. What I didn't know was that this "trainer" was the Corporate Head of 7 Fitworks Personal Training departments. (Unfortunately, as we shall see....being titled doesn't make you smart.... or a good business person.)
I scheduled a meeting with the Corporate dude & told him I wanted HIM to train me. He didn't want to train me (I don't know why? I am totally awesome!) and suggested an alternative and PROMISED that if he didn't have a trainer that met my needs he'd cancel my "contract" and refund all my money. Okay, I said. Try me.
I met with Trainer "A" twice. Yep, twice. Nice guy....not very bright. I know, I know, what do I expect at a mediocre gym...but I have SUPER high expectations, and I did inform these people that I was a trainer & knew my shit. Trainer "A" didn't like having a client ask why we were doing something. Trainer "A" couldn't articulate what muscles were being used and how. Trainer "A" really got his back up when I told him he had 2 sessions to prove to me he was going to be a good trainer or I was switching. Where this would have proved as motivation for me as a trainer to put m best foot forward, it did not in this instance. Trainer "A" went out to "smoke" me in a workout. Alas, I was not sore. I decided this wasn't going to be a good fit, and saw much lacking in the trainer. He never asked me what my goals were or why I was training. He never asked anything, really, about me. When I called Mr. Corporate to inform him of my "concerns" he got angry and yelled at me and instead of looking for a solution, offered to refund my money and cancel my contract. OK Mr. Corporate. If that is the way you want to handle a customer with concerns...cancel me, because I don't want to give you my money.
Here comes the really good stuff....
It took Mr. Corporate 1.5 months to figure out that he hadn't canceled my membership correctly. I had to "dispute" the charge on my card and endure collections calls from Fitworks because of this failing. Not only that, but when they finally realized they needed to credit my card, they still managed to screw it up. Instead of crediting me $249.00, they made the credit for $2.49. Seriously? It took you 30 seconds to run my card and take my money, but it takes almost 2 months to correct you mistake...and then you still f it up? Hmmm Fitworks...I see a failing from the top down.
I will not recommend this place...nor their staff. You suck Fitworks.
