Starting off I would just like to say how overwhelming it is to try and find a pediatrician, let alone one you can have complete and total trust in. Agave Pediatrics will never have my trust again.
My husband and I had our very first baby in June. We picked Agave because a friend referred us there but mostly because it was also literally down the street from our house. We saw Dr. Agarwal at the hospital right after our daughter was born. We had heard good things about him previously and wanted to get in with him but he wasn't accepting new patients at the time, so we saw the Physician Assistants Jessica, Diane and Damara during my daughter's first two months.
Before my daughter was born I had been afraid that she would inherit a blood disorder that my husband and his father both have. We weren't sure how to even go about finding out if she had it or not. Every time we went to Agave (well checks and weight checks and sick visits) I mentioned her possibly having the anemia. I mentioned it to Dr. Agarwal at the hospital. I even brought in my father-in-law's medical notes regarding his anemia. Not once were we ever referred to a hematologist until her 2-month well check. By that point it was of no use, because we ended up in the ER the very next day. So at her 2-month check up Jessica noticed she was pale but was more concerned about her not gaining weight. She even wanted us to wait to get blood work (which I insisted on obtaining that day btw) until we saw the GI doctor regarding her weight. After the appointment we went and had her blood work and the next day Jessica called because the blood was unusable due to clotting; she told us to go back to draw AGAIN. However, I just knew something was wrong with my baby so we went straight to Phoenix Children's Hospital ER. The triage nurse took one look at her and rushed her back. Her hemoglobin was so low she required three blood transfusions and a stay in the ICU. I told Jessica when she called to check in (because she had received the ER notes from PCH) that we would not continue care with Agave due to now lacking extreme confidence in their abilities to care for my baby. I mean, I had laid out a diagnosis on a silver platter for them and they still did nothing. At her 1-month well check the other PA Diane even sent us to the cardiologist because my daughter had a heart murmur. Guess what one of the symptoms is for her anemia??.... a heart murmur!
My concern to anyone seeking care in this practice is what if I had no idea that my daughter could get this inherited disorder? She could have died because they wouldn't listen to me and because they were not thorough. In fact, the doctors at PCH were mortified to find out that she had been in for her 2-month well check just the day prior and she looked so sick.
I haven't left a review sooner because I'm not that type of person to complain about a doctor's office publicly, but I was just recently sent over the edge. My friend who had referred me to Agave originally, was in the hospital with her daughter because she had an infection of the bone behind her ear which required a hospital stay and surgery.... How does one get a bone infection usually? Most likely due to an untreated ear infection (she had been to Agave recently for numerous sick visits and they didn't realize she had an ear infection?!?!)... So please think twice before putting the care of your children in the hands of these doctors and Physician Assistants. It's very unfortunate too because at the time they seemed friendly and knowledgeable.
