An institution in the south hills.
That said, it's still a diner at the end of the day. Considering how much steady business they get throughout the night, I'm surprised they don't have more than 2 swamped servers on the night shift. Needless to say service is spotted and curt, but not impolite.
The decor is cute, but the whole place does seem a bit old and run down. The bottle of hot sauce I got the other day had the consistency of watery jello. They could use a bit of touch up/restoration.
Food is average, cheap, and something on the extensive menu will hit the spot. Thank goodness for its existence. I highly prefer Tom's to any Eat n Park/ihop/whatever generic chain food served to me by angsty teenagers who act like they don't want me there. 3 stars overall.
The extra star is for the extensive selection of craft beers downstairs/next door. Apparently a lot of good stuff and good recommendations, according to my more knowledgeable friend. They don't keep a beer list, but go down and browse and find something yummy to go with your meal! I think this section closes around 1 or 2 am.
