| - We needed temporary housing between Cleveland and Akron, and I'm a big baby and did not want to clean snow off my car in any way. Apartments with attached garages in this town are like a good man, hard to find or unavailable. The Residence at Barrington has many units with attached two-car garages and was in a great location. My first choice was off of Frost Rd., the Village of Western Reserve. I even reserved a unit on their website. However, when I called them after that, she told me that I HAD to apply online for the reservation to stick. We lost the unit and I was very bummed.
Another irritating thing was that when I originally called leasing (which is their Associated Estates line), I was specifically told that they did 3 and 6 month leases, for a fee. Both locations refused this, however, and claimed they had just stopped doing it. So, we pay extra for a 6 month lease which still ended up being one month too long and will cost us an extra $1500. We definitely aren't thrilled about this.
Kevin at the leasing office is great - so is everyone we've dealt with, really. The clubhouse is very nice and the pool looks great, I'm very sorry we'll miss using it. Heinen's is a great grocery store within walking distance, as are some great eating, and a McDonald's, a Wendy's, gas, and a movie theater. The outlets are right down the road and the toll road is within 10 minutes. The quickest commute to Akron is Aurora-Hudson to Frost to I-80 to 8, and the quickest commute to Cleveland is 306 to 422 to 271.
Now, as far as the townhome we're in.... everything is at least functional, for the most part, except the laundry room. The ancient washer and dryer are shoved in a utility closet. You literally have to lean around the furnace to empty the dryer. If you're going to give us laundry in the unit, you could at least make it more functional... But, I don't have to haul my clothes anywhere but down the stairs so this is OK.
The electric range is very finicky and the refrigerator is TINY with a half-ass functioning ice maker. For $1500 a month, you would think we could get decent appliances.
The overall size of the unit is perfect. Our bathrooms are large. The awful tile in the kitchen and bathrooms is disgusting. I feel like I live in a hospital. They really should put in vinyl.
The water here tastes like bleach - get a filter for your faucet.
We feel safe, despite the gates being open half of the time. It is generally quiet.
When we had all of our blizzards this year, they were cleaning snow around the clock. I'm sure this is where most of our high rent comes into play. They really worked their butts off cleaning our walks, driveway, and roads.
Overall, we are really happy to be here, but this place needs some definite updates for the amount of rent they are charging. They kind of have you by the balls with all of their garages.
Oh, and they manage to tack "fees" onto our rent every month. This is annoying but it's never enough to fight over.
We've enjoyed our time here, it was a good in-between home. I can't imagine throwing this money away every month in a long-term situation, however.
