| - Had a real Jekyll & Hyde experience with Adams following a water heater blowout which flooded our basement.
The good: They were on-site within an hour of being called around 4:30 on a Friday afternoon, and additional staff showed up over the next 3 or 4 hours to help mitigate the water damage. They removed and disposed of all the wet carpet padding, and left an appropriate number of fans to dry the wet carpet and walls. They did a nice, clean job and were respectful and businesslike.
The bad: I really can't imagine how their initial response could have been any better, other than their rep telling us they would coordinate with our insurance company, and we would not have to do anything. Found out that was false when their demolition crew showed up the next evening and said they needed a claim number from our insurance company before they could proceed. Of course, we had to then initiate the claim ourselves, and couldn't get a claim number (Saturday evening), so the demolition crew had to leave and wasn't back until Monday. Over the next two weeks, to say that their office staff was aggressive in their follow-up calls seeking our selection of them to do the restoration would be an understatement. Their office staff also misrepresented the status of our claim (OK, they lied) in telling us that our insurance carrier had approved payment on the claim based on their (Adams') estimate. In fact, approval came a full week after Adams' representative wanted us to sign a contract based on the alleged approval.
The ugly: Barely two weeks after the initial incident, and before we had even received a bill, Adams had a 3rd-party service send us a Twenty Day Preliminary Notice of intent to file a lien against us for non-payment. When I called Adams, several different staff members tried to totally downplay its significance, and acted as though they had no idea why we would be upset. They refused to acknowledge that the notice clearly states several legal responses which we were obligated to make; instead, they kept saying we didn't have to do anything. While it is a legal document, it is also pretty clearly worded, and very easy to understand, and it does indeed require a legal response. Needless to say, we would never recommend anybody have any business dealings with Adams for any reason, under any circumstances.
