| - This is the nicest of the LA Fitness facilities that I've been to thus far. The equipment is very new and always well maintained. Only a few times have I been here when a machine had an Out of Order sign on it. It's also very clean and smells pretty good for being a gym - it doesn't have that "recirculated damp air" smell that some gyms have. I always see maintenance people cleaning and vacuuming, which I particularly enjoy - you know it's clean when you see it being cleaned!
The locker rooms are also nicely maintained. It doesn't have a bleach-y smell, just a clean smell. The soap and paper towels are always stocked.
It's usually pretty busy here, though. It doesn't matter when you come, but definitely avoid at night/after work - you'll be waiting for a machine longer than the limit of 20 minutes, but that doesn't stop people. They'll be on for 60+ minutes while people are waiting. It does seem to quiet down around 11am until about 2 or 3pm I've noticed. The demo here is all over, from 20s to 60s and beyond.
The staff members, aside from the person who scans your keytag, never say a word to me. I don't want them circulating like the GM of a restaurant while I'm trying to sweat it out, but if I make eye contact, they usually look away. Maybe I'm too gross and sweaty for acknowledgement?
One thing in particular really peeved me. One free personal training session comes with your membership. I set my session up for a weekday morning at 9am when I had time off. It was a slushy morning, but I got there before 9, not feeling like being there but I made a commitment. I was told the trainer wasn't there yet. I did some cardio while I waited. 30 mins later, a staff member told me he called off earlier in the day. Could no one have told me this? I never rescheduled - they didn't call to re-set the time like they said so I didn't bother.
Pros: clean, new equipment, MixStirs cafe inside facility
Cons: over-capacity membership makes for long waits, unfriendly/uncaring trainers and staff
