| - Not sure why this place isn't more popular. You know how hard it can be to get good Lebanese food in Madison? (Gas station gyros don't count.)
So for starters, this place has all the traits of a best kept secret - very small space, cluttered waiting area and counter, and a sweet older lady (co-owner) who is doing it all from start to finish.
Given the above, it's not going to be a 3 minute ramen soup stop. Be prepared to wait based on my experience. The wait will only heighten your anticipation of the awesomeness that you'll soon enjoy.
Tried to hold back, but just wanted to try it all! Ordered a variety including hummus, moohamara (red pepper/walnut spread), babaganoush, falafel, and Gyro plate. All very, very good.
Best Lebanese I've ever had was in New York; People's Bakery is competitive with my memory!
I'd been meaning to try PB for years (yes) but they're usually closed when I think of it. That said, early close times (6/7pm).
People's Bakery should be on your Madison gustatory bucket list. With aging owners and a craft not easily picked up by others, hard to say how much longer we'll have this secret to keep.
