I just moved to Las Vegas from Piedmont, California where I had the some of best animal care in the U.S. at Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital. I was somewhat wary of a referral to Dr. Arn and Desert Inn Animal Hospital, since his specialties are not with felines. I decided to test him by bringing in my most ill tempered female feline who does not like men. The office was larger than I anticipated and very clean. There is enough room to keep your cat away from dreaded canines.
My appointment with Dr. Arn was very surprising. He has a wonderful manner with all animals. He is very intuitive and I was delighted and surprised when Annie behaved herself when he handled her and gave her the annual injections she needed. I will make Dr. Arn my veterinarian for all my cats, despite the location being a bit far from where I live. This was a totally unanticipated pleasant experience.
UPDATE: May 2018
Despite the fact that Dr. Arn has sold his practice to VCA Corporation he is still the director. The prices have increased to be in line with the corporate bottom line. I have noticed some distinctive negative changes.
The front office staff seem totally confused and are nice folks, but either incompetent or understaffed. The last two visits I have waited up to 40 minutes to get an invoice to pay my bill. I also see other people waiting.
I have now been to three different vets in the clinic for care of my cats. Las Vegas appears to be a 90% "dog" town, so cats are second class citizens. Two vets misdiagnosed one of my cats with asthma. It turned out to be an upper respiratory infection. I now am going to Dr. Coy, since she appears to be the only one of the three I have seen who has a good bedside manner with humans. I have also had trouble getting diagnoses sent to a specialty clinic I was referred to by Desert Inn. I live on the other side of town. I have experienced enough negatives recently that I am going to look for a competent feline vet closer to my location. I do not like the commercial turn and disorganization that now seems to plague Desert Inn Animal Hospital.
