Azteca is a down home sort of Mexican restaurant and I'm sure lots of people enjoy it but it's not for me.
The place has a lot of charm with the decor and authentic sounding menu items (I have no knowledge of Mexican cuisine). However the booths are spaced way too closely and you end up banging knees with your dining companion if you sit across from each other. I'm all for a good banging but not in the knees thank you very much.
You get some chips and weird salad thing as well as extremely watery salsa to start off your meal while you decide on what you want. It's kind of nice but the salsa is mostly water so it just slides right off the chip. The food comes out blazingly fast though which is a great bonus if you are hungry and don't want to eat tomato water and chips. Almost everything comes with a salad of wilted iceberg that you can totally skip over, rice and refried beans. The beans and rice are really too salty to eat much of on their own though they were okay with what I ordered which was some sort of well cooked sirloin. Portions are huge, but I was still hungry afterwards because I did not eat most of it.
I was in such a rush to leave that I actually forgot my credit card here and had to return the next day to pick it up. I do not think I will return however if you like this sort of thing go for it.
