| - I purchased two porcelain cups in MUJI Japan last May. It went perfect with my MUJI toothbrush set, until I accidentally broke the cups. I have searched to see if I can get it shipped from their US online store, and realized shipping cost $30 for two cups! Searched ebay and the item cost a bit more than I am willing to pay! Anyway, story short, I couldn't find the item online for a decent price. So, I braved myself down to Eaton Centre, and lo'and behold, the cup for $6! Which is way less than what I would have been able to get it for on the Internet.
Look, you pay for the brand. MUJI's design thrives in simplicity and minimalism, which is what I love most about it. When club monaco's furniture store on Queen, Caban, closed down many years ago, I was heartbroken, and MUJI was able to mend that for me. But I had to always shop only during my trips to Asia. Most of their home items are very well design. Yes, some items are overpriced, but you pay for the brand's name, I suppose.
I heard of a rumour that a second MUJI store might open up in Toronto because of its immense popularity with this location upon opening. I hope it's twice this size, because this location is a bit teeny. And I hope they carry more of the items I spotted on Asia, that was too large to fit in my luggage.
All in all, I'm happy I didn't have to wait till my Asia trip to replace these cups.
MUJI, you definitely receive a warm welcome from me in Toronto.
